Aztecs Men's Basketball cruises by Scottsdale CC for 18th straight win
The Pima Community College men's basketball team (18-0, 7-0 in ACCAC) opened its game against Scottsdale Community College (9-9, 3-4) with 14 straight points and never looked back.
- The No. 7 ranked Aztecs earned their 18th straight win after beating the Artichokes 89-46. It was the lowest point total the Aztecs have allowed to an ACCAC Division II conference opponent so far this season.
- Scottsdale got on the scoreboard at the 14:19 mark. The Aztecs took their biggest lead of the half at 44-17 after sophomore Taevean Famutimi-Brown drained a three-pointer with 3:10 remaining. It capped off an 11-0 run in a little over three minutes. The Aztecs led 50-25 at the break.
- The Artichokes started the second half scoring seven straight points but the Aztecs countered with a 7-0 run of their own. Up 59-37 with 11:20 left, the Aztecs held the Artichokes scoreless for the next six minutes and put together a 17-0 run to help secure the win. The Aztecs held their biggest lead at 45 points (89-44).
- Freshman Isaiah Hill (Premier Prep Academy) scored a game-high 17 points as he went 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from downtown. He also had three rebounds and two steals.
- Freshman Will Feagles (Notre Dame Prep) shot 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range for 15 points to go with four rebounds and two assists.
- The Pima bench scored 37 points as freshman Rowan McKenzie (Boulder Creek HS) finished with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting with six rebounds and three assists. Famutimi-Brown contributed with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. He was 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
- The Aztecs shot 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the field, 44 percent (11-for-25) from beyond the arc and 90 percent (18-for-20) from the free throw line.
The Aztecs will play their eighth straight home game at the Aztec Gym on Saturday when they go up against Phoenix College. Tip-off is at 4:00 p.m.
