Julissa Lopez hits walk-off, Belen Camacho tosses shutout as Softball sweeps Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College softball team (14-1, 9-1 in ACCAC) returned to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College (6-7, 4-4).
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs swept the Artichokes as sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two walks while fellow sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) finished the day 5-for-8 with an RBI and two runs. Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) closed it out going 3-for-7 with an RBI and three runs and freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) was 3-for-6 with two runs.
Sophomores Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) and Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) picked up the wins in the circle.

  • Game 1: (6) Pima CC Aztecs 5, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 0: Camacho pitched a complete-game shutout as she gave up five hits with six strikeouts and no walks on 90 pitches earning her fourth win of the season.
    Rodriguez scored on an error in the 1st inning. Lopez put the Aztecs ahead 2-0 in the 3rd inning when she hit an RBI double to drive in Figueroa. Sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring in Rodriguez in the 5th inning.
    The Aztecs helped seal it with two runs in the 6th inning. Sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) hit a lead-off home run to center field to make it 4-0. Dehler scored on an error later in the inning.
    Rodriguez finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Lopez-Bedoy was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Figueroa went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Lopez finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. Freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) went 2-for-3.

  • Game 2: (6) Pima CC Aztecs 4, Scottsdale CC Artichokes 3: Lopez hit a walk-off RBI single to right field to score Rodriguez as the Aztecs scored four unanswered runs to win it.
    Down 3-0 in the 6th inning, the Aztecs got on the board when Lopez hit an RBI single back at the pitcher to score Figueroa, who had hit a double with one out in the inning.
    Dehler and freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) sacrificed them over to put them both in scoring position. Rodriguez singled to center field to bring in Dehler and Figueroa followed with a shot to right field to plate Hendrix and tie the game at 3-3. The Aztecs were down to their final out before Lopez's heroics.
    The Aztecs had three hits and three walks in the first five innings.
    Lopez finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Figueroa went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a walk. Dehler closed out the game going 2-for-3 with a run. Hendrix went 1-for-1 with a run.
    Ferrentino entered the game in relief as she pitched three and one-third innings, giving up four hits with two strikeouts and no walks on 41 pitches earning her fifth win of the season.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
