Amerika Lopez-Bedoy has six RBIs as Softball sweeps Paradise Valley CC to run streak to double digits
The Pima Community College softball team (11-0, 6-0 in ACCAC) put its offensive firepower on display once again on Tuesday at Paradise Valley Community College (1-5, 1-5).
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs scored 28 runs and had 37 hits on the day as they swept the Pumas. Sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) finished the day 4-for-8 with six RBIs and five runs scored. Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) closed it out, going 6-for-10 with an RBI and four runs scored.
Sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) went 5-for-7 with four RBIs and four runs while freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) was 5-for-9 with four RBIs and three runs. Freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) was 5-for-7 with an RBI and four runs.
Sophomore Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) and freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up the wins in the circle.
- Game 1: (6) Pima CC Aztecs 16, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 3 (6 innings): The Aztecs scored the first 10 runs of the game as the Pumas got on the board with three runs in the 5th inning but Pima countered with six runs in the top of the 6th to come away with the run rule win.
Up 5-0 in the top of the 4th inning, the Aztecs scored another four runs. Rodriguez hit a lead-off single and was driven by Lopez-Bedoy's RBI double in the next at-bat. Lopez followed with a two-run home run to center field as Pima led 8-0. Freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside HS) had an RBI single later in the inning to score Dehler to cap it off.
With the bases loaded in the 6th inning, Lopez-Bedoy cleared them with a three-run RBI triple bringing in Aguirre, Rodriguez and freshman Aaliyah Pereda (Mountain View HS) to make it 14-3. Lopez-Bedoy scored on the next play as Lopez hit a sacrifice-fly RBI.
Lopez-Bedoy finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored while Lopez was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with three runs and Aguirre finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Freshman Tayah Lyons had RBI singles in the 1st and 3rd innings as she closed it out going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Dehler was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
Ferrentino picked up her fourth win of the season as she pitched all six innings, giving up three runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

- Game 2: (6) Pima CC Aztecs 12, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 2 (6 innings): The Aztecs broke open a tie game in the 3rd inning and scored seven runs between the 5th and 6th innings to earn their second run-rule win of the day.
Lopez-Bedoy picked up where she left off from the first game as she gave Pima the lead after a two-run RBI double that scored Rodriguez and sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) to make it 3-1. Lopez followed with an RBI single to bring in Lopez-Bedoy. Ponce grounded-out but scored Lopez to make it 5-1.
The Aztecs scored four runs in the 5th inning. Freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS) drew a bases loaded walk to score Lopez. Freshman Isabel Mendoza grounded-out and brought in Dehler. Aguirre followed with a two-run RBI single to plate Ponce and Hendrix as Pima went up 9-1.
Mendoza and Aguirre hit back-to-back RBI single as part of a three-run 6th inning.
Aguirre finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run. Rodriguez also went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Lopez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Dehler closed out the game going 3-for-4 with two runs. Lopez-Bedoy and Mendoza were each 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.
Machado earned the win as she pitched all six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will play at South Mountain Community College on Saturday in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The first game is at 12:00 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since last year's Region I, Division II Championship Round.
