Aztecs Men's Basketball moves to 27-0 after beating Chandler-Gilbert CC

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (27-0, 15-0 in ACCAC) won its 27th straight game on Saturday after hosting Chandler-Gilbert Community College (13-14, 4-11) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 4 ranked Aztecs defeated the Coyotes 74-57 as Pima went 3-0 against Chandler-Gilbert in the regular season winning by an average deficit of 19 points.
  • The Aztecs started the game outscoring the Coyotes 14-3, but Chandler-Gilbert rallied to keep the score close for much of the half. Up 22-18 with 4:23 left in the half, the Aztecs went on a 9-0 run to make it 31-18 with 1:02 left. They held a 32-20 lead at the break.
  • The Coyotes cut Pima's lead back to single digits at 45-36 with 12:54 remaining, but freshman Rowan McKenzie (Boulder Creek HS) hit a three-pointer to halt the momentum.
  • The Aztecs took their biggest lead of the game when McKenzie drained another three-pointer to make it 59-42 with 8:10 remaining. Pima would match the 17-point lead on two more occasions to close it out.
  • Freshman Isaiah Hill (Premier Prep Academy) finished with a game-high 16 points to go with nine assists and two steals.
  • McKenzie went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points along with five rebounds.
  • Sophomores Brock Mendoza and Isaac Johnson each scored 10 points. Mendoza had nine boards and four blocks while Johnson added five rebounds and two assists.
  • Sophomore Mason Tippett (Cienega HS) contributed with nine points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench. He went 4-for-6 from the field.

The Aztecs will play at South Mountain Community College in an ACCAC conference game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
