Mason Hunt scores 22 of his 29 points in the second half as Men's Basketball overcomes Glendale CC
The Pima Community College men's basketball team (10-0, 3-0 in ACCAC) faced a tough test on Wednesday in its ACCAC conference game against Glendale Community College (10-3, 2-2).
- The No. 10 ranked Aztecs and the Gauchos went back and forth having 16 lead changes and eight ties in the game as Pima picked up the 105-96 win, earning their 10th straight win to start the season.
- The game was knotted at 49-49 at halftime. Sophomore Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) found his shot as he started the game 6 for 17 but closed it out hitting seven of his final eight shots.
- The Aztecs struggled from the free throw line, but sophomore Taevean Famutimi-Brown hit four free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.
- Hunt scored 22 of his team-high 29 points in the second half. He went 13 for 25 from the field and had five rebounds and two assists.
- Sophomore Isaac Johnson shot 10 for 14 from the field and finished with 24 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
- Sophomore Brock Mendoza added 18 points after going 7 for 8 from the field. He fell short of a double-double with nine rebounds and had four assists and three blocks.
- Freshman Isaiah Hill (Tucson Premier Academy) flirted with a triple-double as he went for 12 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. He also had three steals.
- Famutimi-Brown and sophomore Ky Green each scored eight points off the bench.
- The Aztecs shot 58.3 percent from the field (42-72). They struggled from beyond the arc (5 for 20) and at the free throw line (16 for 32). Pima out-rebounded the Gauchos 38-27.
The Aztecs will be back on the road this Wednesday when they play at Scottsdale Community College in an ACCAC conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
