Mendoza and Johnson post double-doubles as Men's Basketball downs Arizona Christian JV

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (3-0) won its third straight game to start the regular season as it played Arizona Christian University JV on Thursday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 3 ranked Aztecs defeated the Firestorm 123-70. The Aztecs outscored them 74-42 in the second half.
  • Pima led 19-14 halfway through the first half and from there went on to outscore Arizona Christian JV 30-14 to take a 49-28 lead at the break.
  • Sophomore Brock Mendoza led the way for the Aztecs as he scored a team-high 26 points on 11 for 19 shooting. He also grabbed 11 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Isaac Johnson had a double-double of his own putting up 23 points on 10 for 13 shooting and 12 rebounds. He also had four steals.
  • Sophomore Ky Green closed out the game with 23 points off the bench as he finished 9 for 12 from the field, 3 for 4 from beyond the arc and 2 for 2 at the foul line. He also grabbed five rebounds.
  • Sophomore Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) added 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman Isaiah Hill (Premier Pre Academy) fell short of a triple-double as he had 10 points, 10 assists and eight steals.
  • The Aztecs shot 53 for 89 (59.6 percent) from the field and 9 for 22 (40.9 percent) from three-point range. They also finished with 32 assists, 32 steals and 10 blocks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they take on Park University-Gilbert JV. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
