Tyra Christean and Nicholas Horrocks set national qualifiers to open Outdoor Season at PVCC Invitational
The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2026 Outdoor Season on Friday and Saturday at the Paradise Valley CC Multi's and Invitational.
- Sophomore Tyra Christean took first place and set an NJCAA national qualifying standard in the 400-meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line with a time of 1:04.08.
- Freshman Tyra Starkey (Casteel HS) claimed fourth place in the Pole Vault with a mark of 3.16 meters (10-feet, 4.25-inches). She had already set an Outdoor national qualifier in the Pole Vault during eh Indoor Season. Her personal record is 3.25 meters (10-8).
- In men's competition, freshman Nicholas Horrocks (Mountain View HS) earned a national qualifying mark in the Javelin as he produced a throw of 56.15 meters (184-feet, 2-inches) on his fifth attempt.
- The Aztecs have 17 athletes that have set national qualifiers in 16 events for the Outdoor National Championships.
The Aztecs will compete at the Carvel Jackson Memorial Track & Field Showcase on Saturday held at Mesa Community College. The first events begin at 9:00 a.m.
