Kymia Bridgett captures Indoor National Championship in Triple Jump, Hannah Droeg takes runner-up in Pentathlon at NJCAA Indoor Championships
The Pima Community College women's track & field team competed at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on Friday and Saturday at Washburn University in Topeka, KS.
- The Aztecs finished tied for 12th place in the final team standings with a total of 19 points.
- Sophomore Kymia Bridgett became an NJCAA Indoor National Champion and NJCAA All-American after she took first place in the Triple Jump with a personal-record of 12.58 meters (41-feet, 3.25-inches) on her fifth attempt earning 10 team points. She is also No. 2 on the Pima Indoor all-time list.
Bridgett is the first Women's Indoor National Champion since Kaysee Pilgrim, who was a two-time NJCAA Indoor National Champion in the High Jump in 2014 and 2015. - Sophomore Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) became a two-time NJCAA All-American after she took second place in the Pentathlon with 3344 points, falling short of her school record of 3366 points.
She claimed first place and set a new PR in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.33. Droeg also tied for first place in the High Jump at 1.59 meters (5-2.50). She earned eight team points for the Aztecs. - Freshman Elizabeth Ugwu (Sahuaro HS) finished eighth in the Shot Put as she broke her own school record with a mark of 13.22 meters (43-4.50). She had set the previous school record at 13.13 meters (43-1) on Jan. 31. Ugwu earned All-American status and one team point for the Aztecs.
Other finishes at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships:
- Sofia Cambridge (Page HS) – Ninth place in the 800 meters (2:19.39 PR)
- Tyra Starkey (Casteel HS) – 11th place in the Pole Vault (3.20 meters, 10-6)
- Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS) – 11th place in the Pentathlon (2912 points)
- Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) – T-13th place in High Jump (1.51 meters, 4-11.50)
- Kymia Bridgett – 20th place in the Long Jump (4.95 meters, 16-3)
- Cayla Jones (Cienega HS) – 22nd place in the Triple Jump (11.10 meters, 36-5)
