Ava Dagnino scores two goals, Kendra Veliz earns 300th win as Women's Soccer upsets No. 8 Scottsdale CC
The Pima Community College women's soccer team (10-1-5, 10-0-3 in ACCAC) secured a double digit win total for the season on Tuesday as it hosted Scottsdale Community College (10-2-1, 9-2-1).
- The No. 13 ranked Aztecs upset the No. 8 Artichokes 2-1 as Pima's win gave head coach Kendra Veliz her 300th career victory (300-125-35 in 24 seasons).
- Freshman Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored another two goals, bringing her total to 13 on the season. She has scored in five straight games. Dagnino drove in a goal in the 18th minute that was assisted by sophomore Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS). Dagnino made it 2-0 in the early minutes of the second half as she scored with an assist from freshman Gabriela Mendoza (Tucson Magnet HS) in the 48th minute.
- The Artichokes got on the board in the 54th minute after a goal by Samantha Battles.
- Sophomore Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) was a force protecting the net as she finished with a career-high 13 saves. The Artichokes outshot the Aztecs 14-6 for the game.
The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Saturday when they play at Mesa Community College. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
