Aztecs Women's Soccer produces seven goal scorers in shutout win at Paradise Valley CC

The No. 13 ranked Aztecs Women's Soccer team earned their fifth shutout win of the season after beating Paradise Valley Community College 8-0 on Saturday in Phoenix. The Aztecs produced seven goal scorers and five players with a goal and an assist in the game. The Aztecs are 9-1-5 overall and 9-0-3 in ACCAC conference play. The Pima Community College women's soccer team (9-1-5, 9-0-3 in ACCAC) picked up its fifth shutout win on Saturday as it played at Paradise Valley Community College (2-10-1, 1-9-1) in an ACCAC conference contest.

  • The No. 13 ranked Aztecs scored four goals in each half to down the Pumas 8-0. The Aztecs outscored Paradise Valley 13-0 in their meetings during regular season as Pima won 5-0 on Sept. 20 at the West Campus Aztec Field.
  • The Aztecs produced seven goal scorers as five players each had a goal and an assist. Freshman Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) scored two goals in the 20th and 57th minutes to give her a team-leading 14 goals this season. She assisted in freshman Gabriela Mendoza's (Tucson Magnet HS) goal in the 59th minute to put the score at 6-0.
  • Sophomores Marissa Garate (Tucson Magnet HS) and Ashley Martinez (Sunnyside HS) scored the final two goals for Pima on free kicks in the 79th and 89th minutes respectively. Garate provided the assist in sophomore Kristal Navarro's (Tucson Magnet HS) goal in the 29th minute to make it 3-0. Martinez had the dish to Cervantes in the 20th minute.
  • Freshman Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored a goal in her fourth straight game as she put the Aztecs on the board in the 5th minute. She has 11 goals on the season.
  • Sophomore Anjeli DesRosier (Salpointe Catholic HS) put Pima up 4-0 with her goal in the 39th minute that was assisted by Mendoza.
  • The Aztecs outshot the Pumas 17-1 as sophomore Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) finished with one save.

The Aztecs face a tough test in their final regular season home game on Tuesday when they go up against Scottsdale Community College. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
