Melicia Nelson flirts with a quadruple-double as Women's Basketball cruises passed South Mountain CC

Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) posted a triple-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds, 13 assists along with seven steals while fellow sophomore Lucy Land scored 15 points as the No. 6 ranked Aztecs Women's Basketball team won their sixth straight game after beating South Mountain Community College 103-34 in Phoenix. The Pima Community College women's basketball team (8-2, 2-0 in ACCAC) picked up its sixth straight win on Wednesday as it got back to ACCAC conference play at South Mountain Community College (3-6, 0-4).

  • The No. 6 ranked Aztecs opened the game on a 41-2 run that carried into the first three minutes of the second quarter as they beat the Cougars 103-34.
  • The Aztecs held the Cougars to two points in the first quarter and one point in the third quarter.
  • Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) put on a show as she finished the game with a triple-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. She fell short of a quadruple double as she had seven steals. Nelson only had one turnover.
  • Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller scored a team-high 20 points on 10 for 12 shooting and also had six rebounds, two steals and three blocks.
  • Sophomore Lucy Land and freshman Reigne Waugh each scored 15 points. Waugh added six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Land was 7 for 12 from the field.
  • Freshman Nevaeh Urenda (Flowing Wells HS) went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and contributed with 11 points and four steals off the bench. Freshmen Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) closed it out with eight points and eight rebounds while Kahlia Gonzales (Mesquite HS) had eight points and four assists.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Glendale Community College in an ACCAC conference contest. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
