Sours-Miller scores 23 points as Women's Basketball beats Phoenix College to open ACCAC conference

The Pima Community College women's team (6-2, 1-0 in ACCAC) played its first ACCAC conference game on Wednesday at Phoenix College (4-5, 1-1).

  • The No. 7 ranked Aztecs used a pair of first half runs to beat the Bears 69-49.
  • The Aztecs trailed in the early minutes of the first quarter but went on a 15-0 run to take a 19-8 lead. Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City HS) scored six points during that stretch as five Aztecs scored baskets during the run. Pima led 20-12 heading into the second quarter.
  • Up 24-18, the Aztecs scored 13 straight points and turned it into a 23-2 run to go up 47-20. The Aztecs held a 49-23 advantage at halftime.
  • Sours-Miller and freshman Reigne Waugh scored the first nine points for the Aztecs in the third quarter. Sours-Miller converted on a three-point play and Waugh scored back-to-back baskets. Sours-Miller gave Pima their biggest lead of the game at 33 points when her jumper made it 58-25.
  • The Aztecs managed 20 points in the second half as they were outscored 26-20 by the Bears.
  • Pima shot 46.8 percent (29 for 62) from the field and were 10 for 14 from the free throw line.
  • Sours-Miller led the way with a team-high 23 points on 10 for 14 shooting with nine rebounds and three blocks.
  • Waugh also closed out the game in double figures with 12 points along with three rebounds.
  • Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) finished with eight points as she went 4 for 5 from the field and led the team with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Ahdiayh Chee (Dobson HS) added eight points off the bench.
  • Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) contributed with four points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday as they host the fifth annual Indigenous People's Celebration Game. They will take on Park University JV at 7:00 p.m.
