Izabel Rodriguez and Adriana Machado sweep ACCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards

Pima Community College softball players Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) and Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) were recognized for their efforts during the week of April 12-18.

  • Rodriguez, a freshman outfielder, was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week. She batted .588 (10-for-17) with four RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles and one triple as the Aztecs went 3-1 after sweeping Paradise Valley Community College and splitting at South Mountain Community College.
    Rodriguez is hitting .435 with 70 hits in 161 at-bats in 45 games. She has 42 runs, 31 RBIs, 17 steals, seven doubles and five triples.
  • Machado, a freshman right-handed pitcher, earned her second straight nod as ACCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week. She went 1-0 in two starts, pitching six innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
    She is 15-2 with a 4.00 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched. Machado has made 22 appearances and 20 starts with nine complete games. She has 55 strikeouts and 30 walks.

The Aztecs will celebrate Sophomore Day on Saturday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Field. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
