Galus scores goal but Aztecs Women's Soccer and Yavapai College ends in tie

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (0-1-1) played its home opener on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Field.

• The No. 9 ranked Aztecs (Division II) and No. 16 ranked Roughriders (Division I) played to a 1-1 tie as the goals were scored in the first half.
• The Aztecs struck first when sophomore Meredith Galus (Walden Grove HS) found the back of the net with an assist from fellow sophomore Kamalani Peralta (Tucson Magnet HS) with 12:59 left in the half.
• The Roughriders responded 36 seconds later to tie the game when Dottie Bethers scored inside the box.
• The Aztecs had 10 total shots on goal for the game; six were in the second half but they couldn't convert. The Roughriders had one shot on goal in the second half and four for the game.
• Sophomore Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) closed out the game with three saves.

The Aztecs will hit the road to open ACCAC conference play on Saturday at No. 11 ranked Phoenix College. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
