Cade and Schmier earn All-American in Decathlon, Applegate breaks 110mH school record at Outdoor Nationals

The Pima Community College men's track & field team completed the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Friday at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM.

  • The Aztecs sit in eighth place in the updated team standings with a total of 16.50 points.
  • Sophomore Cedric Cade took home his fourth NJCAA All-American honor as he claimed third place in the Decathlon with a total of 6293 points. He earned first place finishes in the Pole Vault at 4.20 meters and the High Jump at 1.97 meters.
    It was Cade's best finish out of all of his NJCAA National Championship appearances as he took fourth place in the Heptathlon at the 2025 NJCAA Indoor Championships, sixth place at last year's Outdoor National Championships and sixth place at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor National Championships. He was also a two-time Region I Champion in the Decathlon.
  • Freshman Andrew Schmier (Red Mountain HS) became a two-time NJCAA All-American as he finished in seventh place in the Decathlon with a total of 6018 points. He finished in fourth place in the High Jump (1.88 meters) and the Pole Vault (3.90 meters).
    Schmier took seventh place in the Heptathlon at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in March.
  • Sophomore Jake Applegate captured the 110-meter hurdles Pima Outdoor school record with a time of 14.32 seconds, beating out Jomari Collie's previous record of 14.33 set in 2016.
    Applegate owns all of the men's hurdle Pima school records. He set a new standard in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.23 in January and earned the 400-meter hurdles record in March with a time of 51.44.

Other Pima finishes in the second day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships:

  • Brent Clark – 11th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase 10:30.69
  • Wyatt Nicholas (Thatcher HS) – T-17th place in High Jump 1.97 meters (6-feet, 5.50-inches)

The Aztecs will compete in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday in Hobbs, NM.
