Taylor Brown breaks two school records as Men's Track & Field snatches third straight Region I Team Championship
Tucson, AZ –The Pima Community College men's track & field team locked up its third straight Region I Team Championship on Thursday. It was their fourth team region title in five years.
- The No. 6 ranked Aztecs secured a total of five individual championships and two Pima school records were toppled. The Aztecs finished with a program-best of 298 points beating out Mesa Community College (171 points) and Central Arizona College (151 points).
- Freshman Connor Grusendorf (Mica Mountain HS) claimed his second Region I title as he took first place in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:09.17 securing 10 points for the Aztecs. He won the 10,000-meter race last week. He also grabbed third place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:00.85. Grusendorf finished the Region I Championships with a total of 26 points.
- Freshman Taylor Brown topped two of his own Pima school records as he took second place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.02 seconds, breaking his previous school record of 21.11. He also took second place and overtook his own record in the 400 meters with a time of 46.55 seconds. He beat it by 10 seconds as the previous standard he set was 46.65. He earned 16 points for the Aztecs.
- Freshman Jake Applegate also secured 16 points for Pima as he finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.63 and took second in the 400-meter hurdles at 52.57.
- Sophomore Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) placed second in the High Jump with a mark of 2.02 meters (6-feet, 7.50-inches) earning eight team points.
- Sophomore Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS) closed out the 1,500-meter race in second with a time of 3:58.73.
- Freshman Isaiah Jordan finished in second place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 14.75 meters (48-4.75).
- Sophomore Darlington Onsarigo (Mica Mountain HS) claimed third place in the Triple Jump at 14.61 meters (47-11.25) securing six points.
- Freshman Vernon Price closed out the High Jump in third place finishing with a mark of 1.92 meters (6-3.50) for another six points.
- Freshman Cedric Cade scored a total of 32 points and was named the Male Field Athlete of the Conference and Region.

- Tayvien Biancuzzo (Mica Mountain HS) – Fourth place in 800 meters 1:55.69 (5 points)
- Cedric Cade – Fourth place in High Jump 1.87 meters (6-1.50) (5 points); Fourth place in 110-meter hurdles 15.63 (5 points; Sixth place in Shot Put 11.95 meters (39-2.50) (3 points); Seventh place in Discus 35.80 meters (117-5) (2 points)
- Mason Hessier – Fourth place in Triple Jump 14.52 meters (47-7.75) (5 points)
- Martin Valencia-Felix (St. Augustine Catholic HS) – Fourth place in Discus 39.82 meters (130-7) (5 points)
- Brian Maloney – Fifth place in Triple Jump 13.09 meters (42-11.50) (4 points)
- Evan Rasoumoff (Catalina Foothills HS) – Fifth place in 1,500 meters 4:02.27 (4 points); Sixth place in 800 meters 1:56.43 (3 points)
- Ketch Sulpizio (Gila Ridge HS) – Fifth place in 110-meter hurdles 15.91 (4 points)
- Nasir Tucker – Fifth place in 400 meters 47.63 (4 points)
- 4x100 Relay (Jaydon Redden, Armani, Ayomikun Jaiyeola, Victor Jarrett) – Fifth place 43.42 (4 points)
- Jackson Koontz (Salpointe Catholic HS) – Sixth place in 1,500 meters 4:02.68 (3 points)
- Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS) – Sixth place in 5,000 meters 15:37.21 (3 points)
- Jimmie Moody – Seventh place in 100 meters 10.92 (2 points)
- Victor Jarrett (Shadow Ridge HS) – Eighth place in 100 meters 10.97 (1 point)
- Benjamin Morgan (Sabino HS) – Eighth place in Shot Put 11.48 meters (37-8) (1 point)
The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships from May 15-17 at Gowan Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.
