Nathan Flores has a goal and an assist as Men's Soccer stifles Mesa CC to close regular season
The Pima Community College men's soccer team (15-2, 12-2 in ACCAC) closed out its portion of the regular season on Saturday at Mesa Community College (4-6-4, 3-6-4).
- The No. 6 ranked Aztecs earned their ninth shutout win of the season after topping the Thunderbirds 3-0. The Aztecs closed the regular season winning 13 of their last 14 games.
- Sophomore Nathan Flores (Alhambra HS) took advantage of a Mesa miscue by the goalkeeper and scored in the 4th minute.
- Sophomore Alejandro Mina made it 2-0 after he netted his sixth goal of the season, converting on a shot less than two minutes into the second half. Fellow sophomore Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) had the assist.
- Sophomore Jihoon Song was in the right spot as he scored on a header from Flores' corner kick in the 73rd minute.
- The Aztecs finished with 12 shots on goal. Freshman Tommaso Leonardi closed out the game with two saves in 78 minutes of play. Sophomore Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) had two saves in the final 12 minutes.
The Aztecs will be the No. 2 seed for the Region I, Division II Tournament and will play No. 3 seed Glendale Community College on Friday at the West Campus Aztec Field. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs and the Gauchos split their regular season meetings. The Aztecs won 2-0 at the West Campus Aztec Field on Sept. and fell 2-1 at Glendale on Oct. 15.
