Plasschaert contributes to rally as Aztecs Baseball downs Phoenix College

The Pima Community College baseball team (42-11, 26-11 in ACCAC) found its offense in the later innings on Saturday as it played an ACCAC conference game at Phoenix College (18-31, 13-23).

  • The No. 9 ranked Aztecs fell behind in the 3rd inning but rallied in the 6th and 7th innings in their 6-3 win over the Bears.
  • The Bears took a 2-0 with runs in the 3rd as the Aztecs managed just one hit in the first five innings.
  • Freshman Jackson Glueck had a lead-off walk in the 6th inning and fellow freshman Zach Plasschaert doubled to put two runners on base. Freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) tied the game with one swing as he drove an RBI single to left field bringing around Glueck and Plasschaert.
  • The Aztecs took the lead in the 7th inning as sophomore Collin Senior (Horizon HS) hit an RBI single to score sophomore Nolan Ganter (Pinnacle HS), who drew a one-out walk. Plasschaert followed with a three-run home run to left field on the first pitch he saw scoring Glueck and Senior to make it 6-2.
  • Plasschaert hit a single in the 4th inning and fell a triple short of the cycle as he went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs. Jones finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Glueck was 1 for 4 with two runs and Senior went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run.
  • Freshman Brady Hall picked up the win in relief as he pitched two innings, giving up three hits with three strikeouts. Sophomore Tsubasa Tomii recorded his fourth save after he pitched the 9th inning, giving up one hit with three strikeouts. Sophomore Lucas Casey (Canyon del Oro HS) started the game and pitched five innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Aztecs will head back out on the road on Tuesday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader at Glendale Community College. Game time will be at 12:00 p.m.
