Andrew Smith sets qualifier in 1,500 meters, Elizabeth Ugwu earns personal-best in Shot Put
The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams competed in their final regular season meet on Saturday at the GCC Outdoor Invitational at Glendale Community College.
- In men's competition, freshman Andrew Smith (Tanque Verde HS) earned an NJCAA national qualifier in the 1,500-meter race after he took first place with a personal-best time of 3 minutes, 55.69 seconds.
- In women's competition, freshman Elizabeth Ugwu (Sahuaro HS) improved on her national qualifying mark in the Shot Put. She took second place with a throw of 13.52 meters (44-feet, 4.25-inches). She moved to third on the Pima Outdoor all-time list. It was the second straight week she earned a PR in the Shot Put as her previous best was set at 13.37 meters (43-10.50).
The Aztecs will compete at the Region I Multi's & 10K Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21 at Mesa Community College.
