Nguyen falls in consolation finals as women's tennis season ends at NJCAA National Tournament

The Pima Community College women's tennis team closed out its portion of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on Wednesday at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center. The Aztecs finished with a total of 5.5 points.

Freshman Lien Nguyen fell in her No. 3 singles consolation finals match again No. 5 seeded Oriane Yehouenou from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (GA) 8-2. Nguyen trailed for much of the match and surrendered the final three points.

The Aztecs had one sophomore and six freshmen on this year's team. They took fourth place at the Region I Championships and finished the regular season at 5-4 overall and 4-4 in ACCAC conference play.

"Experience was the key word for the season. We mostly focused on learning from this year's experiences and from the results, that we can only get better," Pima tennis coach Ian Esquer said. "It was nice to work with a team that wanted to improve more and more every day and before and after every match. They want to have better results for next year."

The Aztecs finished 22nd out of 28 teams with a final team score of 5.5 points.
