Valenzuela named NJCAA All-American; 9th Pima All-American in 11 years

Pima Community College men's soccer player AJ Valenzuela (Desert View HS) capped off his 2017 season accolades with one more.

Valenzuela, a sophomore midfielder, was named first team NJCAA Division I All-American on Monday.

He was selected first team United Soccer Coaches Junior College Men's Division I All-American and was named ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year. He played and started in 23 games scoring two goals with two assists. He helped the Aztecs outscore opponents 73-29 and post 10 shutouts (nine were victories).

The Aztecs finished the season at 19-5-3 overall and a third place finish at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament last month.

This is the fifth straight year the Aztecs have produced an NJCAA All-American. Valenzuela becomes the 19th men's soccer All-American and the ninth in 11 years. Some of Pima's previous All-Americans are Hector Banegas (2016), Jason Romero (2015), Arturo Vega (2014), Alexis Medina (2013), Eric Glad (2011), Minh Vu (2010, 2009) and Fernando Gauna (2007).

Valenzuela has committed to continue his education and his collegiate playing career at San Diego State University.
